Tillandsia Xerographica
Tillandsia Xerographica: The Dramatic Air Plant with Flowing Curls (yes, you need to water it)
The Tillandsia Xerographica is a captivating sight with its unique, silvery-gray leaves that curl and cascade outwards and downwards, resembling a sculpture or a head of wild, curly hair. This low-maintenance beauty is perfect for adding a touch of the unexpected to any space. They will grow for many years, and while they are slow to bloom, their curling leaves create a stunning addition to your plant collection. These plants are about 3” in size and can grow to be 1-3 feet long if given enough time and attention.
Care Instructions:
Watering:
Misting: Mist your Tillandsia Xerographica thoroughly twice a week with filtered or rainwater. Allow the plant to dry completely between mistings (within 4 hours).
Soaking: Fully submerge the plant in filtered or rainwater for 30-60 minutes twice a month. After soaking, gently shake off excess water and set upside down to dry completely (within 4 hours).
Indoor Light: Prefers bright indoor sunlight. Put it in your sunniest (or a sunny) window for best results
Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 50-90°F (10-32°C).
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity. Mist occasionally, especially in dry climates.
Fertilizing: While optional, fertilizing can promote growth and blooms. There are many air plant fertilizers available, but we highly recommend Tilly Boost, a specifically formulated product that can be found on our website here.
Blooming and Pups:
Tillandsia Xerographica is a monocarpic bloomer, meaning it blooms once in its lifetime, and these take a while to bloom, so don’t be disappointed if its been a few years and its still not blooming. The blooms typically appear in shades of purple or lavender and can while the bloom stalk can last for several weeks, each bloom lasts a day. After blooming, the mother plant will begin producing "pups" – small, new Tillandsia Xerographica plants that grow from the base. You can choose to leave the pups attached to the mother plant for a fuller look, or carefully separate them once they reach a mature size to start new Tillandsia Xerographica colonies.
Additional Notes:
Tillandsia Xerographica is an air plant, meaning it doesn't require soil. You can set it in a cool piece of pottery, hang it in a window, or even just set it on the window sill.
Avoid using tap water with high chlorine content, as it can damage the plant.
When blooming, don't get the flowers wet while watering.
This easy-care air plant will bring a touch of the dramatic and whimsical to your home with its unique form and cascading curls. Order your Tillandsia Xerographica today!
